KARELIN FUND
In 2008, the Novosibirsk Regional Public Fund “Karelin Fund” celebrated its 15th anniversary. Each year the Fund comes up with new original ideas how to promote sports and motivate young people to lead a healthy life-style. Different regional and international projects are devoted to this goal.
“Karelin Prize” Tournament
Since 1992, the “Karelin Prize” International Youth Tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling has been conducted in Russia, in the largest cities of the Siberian Federal District. As of 1997 these competitions have become the stage for the selection of the national Russian team to represent Russia in World and European competitions.
Olympians for children
The project of the Fund "Olympians for children" is supported by famous athletes who took part and won in Olympic Games and in different world championships: Irina Minkh (basketball), Viktor Markin (track and field athletics), Yevgeniy Podgornyi (gymnastics), Anna Bogalyi-Titovets (biathlon), Anastasia Glukhikh (flipper swimming), Medeya Javakhishvili (swimming) and many other athletes.
The world sports stars visit children’s schools, recreational camps, boarding schools and orphanages. The visits of such champions create an atmosphere of love for sports. The Olympians tell children about their kind of sport, give them sport lessons and present them with sports equipment. Children with shiny eyes watch the athletes perform, take photos and get autographs. Joint tourist trips for children and athletes also help to stimulate the children’s interest in a healthy lifestyle. According to teachers after such informal and friendly meetings with famous sports heroes, children start to show great interest in sports in general and in taking up various sports.
The Olympic Relay Race
The director of “Karelin Fund” Oleg Voytuk admits that the project "The Olympic Relay Race" was also created to "show the children that their life, health and future are in their hands, that the Olympic winners are normal people who make a success of their lives thanks to perseverance, hard work and loyalty to the choice in their life".
Children try to improve sport skills and to achieve victories just like the Olympic champions do. They also start to cultivate a great wish to take part in sports competitions, relays, intellectual competitions and quizzes which are organized and which include the participation of sport champions.
In 2008 ten boarding schools from Novosibirsk, Altai, Kuzbass and Omsk regions, which form part of the education system belonging to the Western-Siberian Railway Company took part in this project. A vast range of sports equipment including: running tracks, bikes, balls for football, volleyball, basketball and a table tennis set was donated by “Karelin Fund” to the above schools.
Summer holidays for athletes
"Sports Camping" is one of the first projects which was organized by “Karelin Fund”. Thanks to this program, around 150 gifted and promising athletes, can train for free in such sports camps both in Russia and in other countries.
Within a span of just 15 years, “Karelin Fund” has provided about two thousand young athletes with training in the best sports centers in Russia and nearby countries.
Support for talented athletes and International competitions
“Karelin Fund” is actively involved in supporting International and Russian competitions in various kinds of sports. Fund helps athletes to take part in the competitions and to achieve success in sports such as weightlifting, hockey and shooting.
Victor Kuznetsov School of Greco-Roman wrestling
In 1994, the School for Greco-Roman wrestling which is led by the honored coach of the former USSR V.M. Kuznetsov was opened in the "Dynamo" (Novosibirsk) Sports Complex. Here, more than 300 children and adolescents have been doing their training in wrestling. At this school, members of the combat veterans Club hold regular training sessions. Depending on their performance, pupils of the Kuznetsov School receive scholarships and prizes. Free legal assistance is offer to coaches and sport veterans.
New gymnasiums
With the support of “Karelin Fund” new halls for Greco-Roman wrestling, sports schools, clubs and sports and sport complexes are opened.

1995 - The
fourth “Karelin’s Prize” was held in
Novosibirsk
,
first it involved adult athletes, the three-day
competitions were attended by over 40 thousand people, the culmination of this
magical action was an exiting victory over Alexander Karelin of his long-time
rival Metom Ghaffar. More than 12 thousand spectators were standing and
applauding the best champion of champions. “Karelin’s prize” has become a real
business card of the “Fund”. For 17 year history of competitions, they were
attended by more than half of million spectators; most of them were children
and teenagers.
1995 –The
master of sport of the
USSR
on weightlifting,
businessman Viktor Golubev at the support of “Karelin’s fund”
opened a new sport club in the city of
Berdsk
. It was
organized on the second flour, which was build above the ordinary boiler-room. It
is not big in size, but it is enough to place sport-ring, locker-rooms and
showers, and finally open a boxing section. Since 2006 to 2009
the Honored tutor Viktor Golubev has already opened three new sport complexes
in Berdsk city. Among them are two swimming-pools, ice-rink, universal playing
hall, three sportive hotels, and football arena of sport club “Crystal”. These
sport building are well-known all over the country, because all national teams
at different kind of sports are preparing in them. In particular, the preparing
Olympic training of national wrestling and fencing teams were held in Sport
complex “
Crystal
”.
On the Olympic games in
Pekin
wrestlers of Greco-Roman style Nazir Mankiev, Islam-Beka Albiev,
Aslanbek Hushtov took gold medals, Hassan Baroev has won silver medal.
1996 - «Karelin’s Fund» provides systematically
in establishing the sport club «Pervomaets». In, distant from the center of the city of
Novosibirsk
region, was
opened one of the best behind the Urals, a special hall of Greco-Roman
wrestling, in amount of two carpets, with stands for spectators. Today the
Sport complex «Pervomaets» is a two more boxing room, a sport hotel, recreation
center, football field, meeting the highest standards.
1996 - «Karelin Fund» took part in the
construction of

extra-budgetary supported for health care in clinics and health centres. The
fund acquired modern medical equipment in the area of interest of «the Fund»
all categories of citizens are taken: children, teenagers, veterans of labor
and the Great Patriotic War. That project was one of the cost

2002 –The concept of “Karelin’s Prize” is
improving. Since 2002 the tournament has its mottos, which are changed every
year, the tournament has its symbol, and logo which is new for every year.
